Scores use the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg’s own scale. A minimum is not a guaranteed place.
Wits uses its own 8-point scale, NOT the NSC 7-level scale. The best SEVEN NSC subjects are used, including Life Orientation and any Further Studies subject; faculty-required subjects must be among the seven. Points per subject: 90-100%=8, 80-89%=7, 70-79%=6, 60-69%=5, 50-59%=4, 40-49%=3, below 40%=0. English and Mathematics get +2 bonus points from 60% upwards (90-100%=8+2=10, 80-89%=7+2=9, 70-79%=6+2=8, 60-69%=5+2=7); no bonus below 60%. Life Orientation is scored on a reduced scale (see lifeOrientation). The Faculty of Health Sciences does not use APS at all: it uses a Composite Index.
Points: 90%+ = 8 · 80%+ = 7 · 70%+ = 6 · 60%+ = 5 · 50%+ = 4 · 40%+ = 3 · 0%+ = 0

Identical to the state NSC. Wits requires a "National Senior Certificate (NSC), offered by the Department of Basic Education (DBE), or the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), or the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI)"; the same APS table and faculty minimums apply.
Advanced Programme / Further Studies: Counted as a subject, not a bonus: "Further Studies (previously AP) subjects are also included in the APS calculation." The Wits APS is the best SEVEN subjects including Life Orientation, so an AP/Further Studies subject can displace a weaker one. Only English and Mathematics get the +2 bonus.

Cambridge (A Level, AS Level, IGCSE)
Wits publishes no Cambridge grade-to-APS conversion in the 2027 Guide or on its entry-requirements pages, so applicants cannot work out their own APS; for the Bachelor of Architectural Studies the course finder says that, after USAf exemption, "an equivalent APS score and subject scores will be modelled to ensure equal comparison with South African applicants". Each programme instead has an "International Qualifications" table facing its NSC table (Guide pp. 17, 19, 21, 23, 25) giving a minimum grade band per required subject.
No grade conversion is published, so a score cannot be calculated. Requirements are given as grades per subject.
Subject minimums: Grade bands per subject. Engineering: English A-C at O Level/IGCSE, AS or A Level; Mathematics and Physics A-C at AS or A Level, or HIGCSE 1-3 (Chemistry A-D, ChemEng/Metallurgy only). BAccSc Mathematics (NSC level 6) needs AS grade A or A Level A-B; BCom Mathematics (level 5) needs AS A-B / A Level A-C.
Exemption: No number of A/AS passes is published. The tables are headed "International Qualifications (Relevant exemption from South African Matriculation Board)": a USAf/Matriculation Board Complete, Foreign Conditional or Mature Age exemption certificate is required and "does NOT guarantee admission".
The O Level/IGCSE column is filled in only for English Language (and for Mathematics/Maths Literacy on the four-year LLB, and Mathematics A-C on the BA (Law), p. 23, where that column is headed "Secondary Education for Mature Age Exemption only"); for Mathematics and the sciences in Engineering, Science and Health Sciences there is no O Level column at all, so AS or A Level, or the Cambridge Higher IGCSE (HIGCSE: grades 1-3 in Engineering and most Science rows, 1-2 in Health Sciences, 1 in the Mathematical Sciences rows), is required.

IB Diploma
No APS conversion is published for the IB. Requirements are stated as HL/SL grade bands per required subject in the same "International Qualifications" tables (Guide pp. 17, 19, 21, 23, 25). There is no published IB total-points threshold and no published way to derive a Wits APS from IB grades; for the Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Wits says an equivalent APS score and subject scores "will be modelled" after USAf exemption.
No grade conversion is published, so a score cannot be calculated. Requirements are given as grades per subject.
Subject minimums: Most programmes: HL 4-7 or SL 5-7 in each required subject (equivalent to the NSC level 5 they ask for). School of Economics and Finance Mathematics: HL 5-7 / SL 6-7. BSc Mathematical Sciences (incl. Actuarial Science): English HL 6-7, Mathematics HL 7. Health Sciences: HL 4-7 / SL 5-7.
Exemption: Same as for Cambridge: the IB Diploma column sits under "International Qualifications (Relevant exemption from South African Matriculation Board)", so a USAf/Matriculation Board exemption certificate is required. Wits states no minimum IB total points anywhere in the 2027 Guide.
The column is labelled "International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma)", i.e. the full Diploma. Health Sciences applicants must also write the NBT in person; Science applicants must write the NBT. Applicants schooled in a language other than English must write IELTS (Guide p. 31).
