Requirements

Wits 2027 example: APS 42 or more, with English Home Language or First Additional Language, Mathematics and Physical Sciences each at level 5. Applicants at level 5 in all three may be wait-listed; level 6 gives a greater chance. 4 years.

Applicants with English, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at Level 5 may be wait-listed, subject to place availability; applicants who achieve Level 6 in all three generally stand a greater chance of being accepted. Places are limited and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee a place. The first year is common to all professional engineering degrees.

Your qualification route
  1. Choose a programme whose discipline and accreditation match your intended engineering route.
  2. Complete the degree, required practical work and design projects.
  3. For professional engineer registration, follow the applicable ECSA training, experience and competence-assessment route after qualifying.

An aeronautical engineering degree is not pilot training or an aircraft maintenance licence. Space-related work can require further specialisation.
