Wits 2027 example: APS 36 or more and English Home Language or First Additional Language level 5. APS 30-35 is wait-listed, subject to place availability. You must also attend a digital arts workshop and/or complete a questionnaire, and submit a portfolio of artworks (at least 10 examples of visual and written work) with the questionnaire by 31 October 2026; an application without a portfolio is incomplete. 4 years; Animation is a specialisation inside a game-design degree.

Your qualification route
  1. Compare specialist animation courses with broader digital media programmes.
  2. Check the balance of 2D, 3D, motion design, storytelling and production in the curriculum.
  3. Build a focused showreel and document your own contribution to collaborative projects.

A multimedia degree may include animation without offering the same depth as a specialist animation programme. Evaluate the actual modules and student work.
