UCT 2027 example: admission is to the BSc, not to the Applied Mathematics major. Mathematics 70%, Physical Sciences 60% and 660 FPS out of 800 (Mathematics and Physical Sciences doubled) for guaranteed admission (Band A); the faculty minimum is 550 FPS.

Science FPS is out of 800 (Mathematics and Physical Sciences doubled). Band A (guaranteed) FPS of 660 or above; Band B (likely) WPS of 640 or above; Band C (possible, SA applicants in targeted redress categories) FPS of 550 or above; most offers are made to applicants in the guaranteed band. NBTs in Mathematics, AL and QL must be written but are not taken into account for admission to the Science Faculty. Admission is to the BSc; acceptance into the Science Faculty does not guarantee acceptance into a chosen major. Applications for 2027 closed on 31 July 2026 (UCT does not accept late applications).

Wits 2027 example: APS 44 or more, English Home Language or First Additional Language level 5, Mathematics level 6. APS 41-43 may be wait-listed, subject to place availability. The NBT must also be written. 3 years.

Stellenbosch 2027: NSC aggregate of at least 65% (excluding Life Orientation), Mathematics 70%, Physical Sciences 50% only if you take Chemistry or Physics as a university subject, and Afrikaans OR English (Home Language or First Additional Language) 50%.

Published minimums only; the selection threshold is higher. Faculty of Science selection mark = [(2 × Mathematics mark) + the marks of five other subjects] ÷ 7, Life Orientation excluded. A selection mark of 80% or more gets a conditional offer in Phase 1 (1 Apr – 31 Jul); the Phase 2 range for this programme is 75% or higher. Fully completed applications must be submitted by 31 July.

UJ 2027 example: English level 5, Mathematics level 6 and Physical Sciences level 4 (level 5 if Chemistry 1A and/or Physics 1A is included in the programme); APS 31. Technical Mathematics and Technical Science are not accepted.

UKZN 2027: APS 28 (Life Orientation excluded) with Mathematics, English and Life Orientation at level 4, and one of Agricultural Sciences, Life Sciences or Physical Sciences at level 4. 3-year BSc with Applied Mathematics as a major, applied for as the B Sc Generic Degree.

Published minimums only: UKZN selects by academic ranking from APS 48 down until the places are filled, and meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place. Apply through the CAO for the B Sc Generic Degree (KN-P-BG4 Pietermaritzburg / KN-W-BG4 Westville) and choose the major at registration. Closing date 30 September 2026.

NWU 2027 example: Mathematics level 5, Physical Sciences level 4 and APS 26. Mahikeng, 3 years.
