Scores use the Free State’s own scale. A minimum is not a guaranteed place.
Points are awarded for SIX academic subjects on the NSC achievement scale, using a UFS 8-point table (Level 7 is split: 90-100% = 8 points, 80-89% = 7). No points are awarded below 30%. Life Orientation is NOT one of the six subjects: it adds exactly ONE extra point, and only if LO is Level 5 (60%) or higher. Maximum = 6 x 8 + 1 = 49. No subject-specific bonus points. For MBChB the six subjects are fixed: the four compulsory subjects (English, Maths, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences) plus the best two other subjects, plus the LO point.
Points: 90%+ = 8 · 80%+ = 7 · 70%+ = 6 · 60%+ = 5 · 50%+ = 4 · 40%+ = 3 · 30%+ = 2 · 0%+ = 0

IEB, Cambridge and IB applicants
IEB
Identical to the NSC: the conversion table has a single combined 'RSA NSC / IEB' column, and the prospectus states 'The entry requirements stated in this document are for NSC or IEB exams. For all other examination bodies, refer to the Conversion Table.'
Advanced Programme / Further Studies: Nothing is published about these subjects, so assume they earn no extra credit.
Source: UFS Undergraduate Prospectus 2027 - faculty entry-requirement note ('for NSC or IEB exams') and the 'Conversion' table column headed 'RSA NSC IEB' (pp. 54-55)
Cambridge (A Level, AS Level, IGCSE)
Convert every subject symbol to a UFS AP point value on the prospectus conversion table (pp.54-55), then apply the normal AP rule: six academic subjects plus 1 point for Life Orientation at level 5 (60%) or higher. No percentages needed - 'upload international results as symbols'. A Level A* and A score 10 and 9 points, above the NSC maximum of 8, so a Cambridge AP can exceed 49.
A Level: A* = 10 pts · A = 9 pts · B = 8 pts · C = 7 pts · D = 6 pts · E = 5 pts
AS Level: A = 7 pts · B = 6 pts · C = 5 pts · D = 4 pts · E = 3 pts
IGCSE / O Level: A* = 8 pts · A = 7 pts · B = 6 pts · C = 5 pts
Subject minimums: Faculty subject minimums are stated in NSC terms only: 'The entry requirements stated in this document are for NSC or IEB exams. For all other examination bodies, refer to the Conversion Table.' NSC 70-79% (level 6) = A Level D, AS Level B or IGCSE/O Level B.
Exemption: A USAf Certificate of Exemption is required unless you hold an endorsed SA Senior Certificate. UFS's Office for International Affairs applies to USAf on your behalf (you pay the fee) and screens eligibility 'using a combination of Grade 12 mid-year AS-level and Grade 11 O-level results'.
IGCSE/O Level grades below C score nothing, and O-Level-only results give conditional offers only (Note 1). UK GCSE 9-1 also converts: 9=8, 8 or 7=7, 6 or 5=6, 4=5, 3=4, 2=3. UFS accepts only an official Cambridge Statement of Results showing an EMIS number.
Source: UFS Undergraduate Prospectus 2027 - 'CONVERSION' table, columns 'GCSE (CIE O-Level/IGCSE...)', 'GCSE UK', 'AS Level' and 'A Level' (pp. 54-55) · UFS Undergraduate Prospectus 2027 - 'Calculation of your Admission Point (AP) score' (p.50) and 'International students' / USAf exemption steps (pp.52-53, 56-57) · UFS International Undergraduate Studies (links the admission conversion table)
IB Diploma
The same conversion table converts each IB subject grade to a UFS AP point value (HL points = grade + 3, SL points = grade + 1), then the normal AP rule applies: six academic subjects plus 1 point for Life Orientation at level 5 (60%) or higher. IB HL 7 and 6 score 10 and 9 points, above the NSC per-subject maximum of 8.
Higher Level: 7 = 10 pts · 6 = 9 pts · 5 = 8 pts · 4 = 7 pts · 3 = 6 pts · 2 = 5 pts · 1 = 4 pts
Standard Level: 7 = 8 pts · 6 = 7 pts · 5 = 6 pts · 4 = 5 pts · 3 = 4 pts · 2 = 3 pts · 1 = 2 pts
Subject minimums: NSC 90-100% (UFS level 8) = IB HL 5 or SL 7; NSC 70-79% (level 6) = IB HL 3 or SL 5; NSC 50-59% (level 4) = IB HL 1 or SL 3. The same grade is always worth two more AP points at HL than at SL.
Exemption: A USAf Certificate of Exemption is required unless you hold an endorsed SA Senior Certificate; UFS's Office for International Affairs applies to USAf on your behalf against payment of the prescribed fee. UFS publishes no IB-specific subject or minimum-diploma-score requirement of its own.
UFS converts individual subject grades, not the IB 45-point diploma total, and sets no minimum diploma score. The table is a guideline: 'Meeting the minimum admission requirements ... does not guarantee admission, as limited space is available in each programme.'
