Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechatronics (BSc(Eng))

University of Cape Town · 2027 intake NSC/IEB check in My Map

First-year tuition (2026): R82 820

Requirements

UCT 2027 example: Mathematics 80% and Physical Sciences 75% in every band. Guaranteed admission (Band A) needs 500 FPS; Band B needs 480 WPS; Band C needs 420 FPS and is for specified redress categories only.

NSC/IEB/SACAI degree endorsement required. Maths Literacy or Technical Maths cannot be substituted for Maths, and Technical Science cannot be substituted for Physical Sciences. NBTs in Mathematics, AL and QL must be written, but the results are not taken into account for admission to this faculty. Band A (guaranteed admission) needs 500 FPS; Band B (likely) 480 WPS; Band C (possible) 420 FPS, for South African applicants in redress categories 1 and 2 only. Study offers are limited; meeting the levels in a lower band does not guarantee admission. Applications for 2027 closed on 31 July 2026 (UCT does not accept late applications).

BEng (Mechatronic)

Stellenbosch University · 2027 intake NSC/IEB check in My Map

First-year tuition (2026): R81 563

Requirements

Stellenbosch 2027: NSC average of at least 70%, Mathematics 70%, Physical Sciences 60%, and English Home Language 50% or English First Additional Language 60% (or English First Additional Language 50% with Afrikaans Home Language 50% or Afrikaans Second Additional Language 60%).

Published minimums only. Selection score = Mathematics + Physical Science + 6 x Average (maximum 800). Provisional threshold for an offer before 31 July: selection score 660 with average 70%, Mathematics 75% and Physical Science 65%. Final thresholds are only determined after the closing date and can vary from programme to programme.

Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechatronic Engineering

North-West University · 2027 intake NSC/IEB check in My Map

First-year tuition (2026): R70 345

Requirements

NWU 2027 example: Mathematics 70%, Physical Sciences 70%, 60% in Afrikaans or English (the language of instruction) and APS 34. Potchefstroom, 4 years.

Capacity is limited and meeting the minimums does not guarantee a place. Applicants with borderline Grade 11 results may be conditionally accepted, provided they meet the minimums in their final Grade 12 results. Engineering closing date on NWU's Selection page: 31 August, the same as NWU's general closing date; 2027 applications are closed.

Your qualification route
  1. Choose a programme whose discipline and accreditation match your intended engineering route.
  2. Complete the degree, required practical work and design projects.
  3. For professional engineer registration, follow the applicable ECSA training, experience and competence-assessment route after qualifying.

A robotics short course is not a substitute for the engineering qualification and professional development route.
