Bachelor of Science in Geomatics (BSc Geomatics)

University of Cape Town · 2027 intake NSC/IEB check in My Map

First-year tuition (2026): R73 930

Requirements

UCT 2027 example: guaranteed admission (Band A) needs 450 FPS with Mathematics 75% and Physical Sciences 70%. Bands B and C need Mathematics 65% and Physical Sciences 60%, with 420 WPS or 390 FPS, and Band C is for specified redress categories only.

NSC/IEB/SACAI degree endorsement required. Maths Literacy or Technical Maths cannot be substituted for Maths, and Technical Science cannot be substituted for Physical Sciences. NBTs in Mathematics, AL and QL must be written, but the results are not taken into account for admission to this faculty. Band A (guaranteed admission) needs 450 FPS; Band B (likely) 420 WPS; Band C (possible) 390 FPS, for South African applicants in redress categories 1 and 2 only. The lower Mathematics (65%) and Physical Sciences (60%) minimums apply to Bands B and C only. Study offers are limited; meeting the levels in a lower band does not guarantee admission. Applications for 2027 closed on 31 July 2026 (UCT does not accept late applications).

Bachelor of Science in Land Surveying (KN-H-BSL)

University of KwaZulu-Natal · 2027 intake NSC/IEB check in My Map

First-year tuition (2026): R64 716

Requirements

UKZN 2027: APS 33 (Life Orientation excluded) with Mathematics and Physical Sciences each at 65% (level 5) and English and Life Orientation at level 4 (50%). 4 years, Howard College only.

UKZN selects by academic ranking from APS 48 down until the places are filled, so meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place. The CAO 2027 handbook says this programme will consider all choices. Closing date 30 September 2026.

Your qualification route
  1. Compare surveying and geoinformatics routes and select the one suited to your intended work.
  2. Complete the relevant qualification and practical fieldwork.
  3. For professional surveying, verify SAGC recognition, training and assessment requirements.

A GIS course does not automatically qualify you to perform legally reserved land-surveying work. Check the professional category attached to the programme.
