A four-year BEng/BSc(Eng) accredited by ECSA. The Washington Accord makes it one of SA's most portable degrees: the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and NZ accept the education (UK Chartered status also needs master's-level further learning); US state boards decide for themselves, usually after an NCEES credentials evaluation; Germany assesses it case by case, and in the Netherlands engineering is unregulated, so employers judge the degree. • Extended curriculum programmes add a foundation year for applicants just below the requirements.
  • Rewrite individual NSC subjects to improve a mark.
  • Transfer after a strong first year in a related degree: many faculties accept this.

Ask each faculty which of these it offers: they differ widely.
